It's really gonna happen.

Demo of kitchen was initially set for June 15, then it was bumped up to June 10 because Craig (carpenter/framer, closest we have to a General Contractor) had to start framing a house on the 15th. He was levelling floors and tiling half-bath week before last.

Meanwhile, L placed the actual order for the cabinets and gave the guy $5000 in seed money, about 40% of the whole job.

Then Craig said he should frame the house right away, so this is current schedule.

We've also ordered the countertop but they can't take measurements til new cabinets are in place. We've decided on kitchen floor ceramic tile, and the placement pattern, but haven't purchased it yet. It's open stock at Lowe's so we should be OK there. Hopefully, we can order it and Craig can pick it up with his truck. If we put 30 boxes of ceramic tile in our PT Cruiser, it will be dragging on the road like Brian Griffin with worms.

Jun 22 - Start boxing up kitchen (I've done about 20% of it already. For instance, without a stove, I know I won't be baking).

Jun 23 - Prep for temp kitchen. L will slide fridge round corner into Living Room, and old cabs will be set in Living Room for temp kitchen, with uppers sitting directly on old countertop.

Jun 24 - Demo Kitchen (YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY - that's one for every 2 years I've waited for this ), pull cabinets, take measurements for new cabs, repair and patch drywall as necessary. Pull linoleum flooring - I have hated that effing stuff with a redhot passion for 18 years. Previous finish floor will probably need to be taken up, releveled and new subfloor placed.

Jun 25 - L will try to temporarily hook up old D/W in basement. There is still a laundry hookup down there and eventually washer and dryer will return there from (new) Garage where they've been living for the last 8 months. If that doesn't work, well, we won't be very green for a while. Don't you love my new dishware pattern? It's called Chinet. And my new personal chef, George Forman?

Jun 29 - new cabinets to be delivered.

Jun 30 - cabinets to be installed. Fridge and stove MIGHT get hooked up but I kinda hope they wait til after new floors are in. Also, we still need to buy the new dishwasher.

Jul 1 - delivering hardwood flooring (for Living Room, hallway, pantry). Hopefully, old cabinets will be in dumpster by then. Otherwise, there will be no place to put the flooring.

Jul 2 - final measurements for countertops taken, now that new cabinets are in place.

Jul 6-8 - approximate. Floor tile installed.

Jul 14 - Happy Anniversary! 24 years!

Jul 15 - Countertop delivered and installed, Celtic decorative tiles for half-bath come in.

Jul 17 - finish tiling the half-bath, perhaps do the backsplash if we've got it figured out and tiles are available. I'm actually trying to do a materials take-off for that now. Check out http://earthsongtiles.com/celtic_tiles.html We're considering the tiny 2-inch carved Celtic knot tile as an accent, and the large Claddagh (scroll way down)as the centerpiece behind stove. Maybe in a dark green underglaze.

Last half of July - finish work on stairway, balusters, handrail, newel posts at top and bottom.

End of July - install hardwoods. At some point, we need to leave for 3 days while the finished floors "cure". We need to take the cats with us.

Aug 3 -14 - I'm still taking vacation. If there is slippage above - that schedule is pretty tight - the floors could be happening during this time frame. Hoping to pull L out to the Coast for a couple days.

Labor Day - some sort of housewarming, "nearly done" party. L still needs to do the Yarn Wall, baseboards and his special window and door trim (see below), but that will happen slowly over the fall.

So, other than that, not much going on here. Oh wait, we have a half-bath. Spartan, but functional.

This light fixture is pretty close to some others in the house. Comparison shots later, I'm late for work.
