Almost at the beginning of the beginning

There was a glitch in the financing for about 10 days, when the title company mistakenly thought there was a lien on the house from 1992 !! As is normal, with mortgages, ours changed hands every couple of years. During one of those, apparently a mortgageholder put a lien on the house until the paperwork was completed and never released it. This was a business to business transaction; we never got anything about a lien, only that we were now supposed to send our mortgage payments to XYZ instead of to ABC.

Or not. We scanned and emailed our documentation of the loan payoff and the deed of reconveyance from the County. It was about a 3-page PDF file. When the loan officer called on Monday to ask about whether we'd found "the paperwork", DH said well, we sent what we had to you a week ago. Apparently, as DH said, they are accustomed to dealing with dead trees and not computer documents. She never looked at the subsequent pages of the document.

So now, we are about ready. We are going to buy down 1.5 points, figure out the distribution (probably into a subaccount on one of our existing accounts at the credit union), and figure out a time and place for signing the documents. Sounds like we're about done.

Which is good because we should already be tearing up the driveway by now. I think next thing is to talk to the architect about getting our permits.
