A very long short week

This has been a truly odd week. We've been without hot water since Monday, and now the delay has been because we could not order an inspection to release the new gas meter because the effing architect did not order Mechanicals permit when he submitted the drawings to the City. The frigging permit was $3200, so like idiots, we expected it had everything except electrical - that part we knew up front. L called to request the inspection and they said, you are not calendared for an inspection and finally we figured out why. We DO have a plumbing permit for the sewer work, but to attach FIXTURES to the plumbing (including an existing, but relocated gas meter) requires a Mechanical trades permit. Poor L aged 10 years on Tuesday. At one point, the plumber's excavator cut our water line and on Tuesday, we did not have gas, water OR sewer for a while. I took a couple hours off work yesterday morning and went in and got the Mechanicals revision, just for the meter, because L had one inspection already scheduled plus interviews with two more subs. The excavator started filling the trenches, but they are still quite spongy. Last night, we had a thunderstorm and some rain, so I hope the backhoe doesn't get stuck in the yard and become a lawn ornament. We now have inspection scheduled for the meter, and hopefully early enough in the day so the gas company will return by end of day and turn our meter back on. I do not want to go through the long holiday weekend without stovetop or hot water. Crossing fingers and toes...
